This project thoughtfully unites historic preservation with modern design through the restoration and expansion of a late-1700s log house. Original elements like the second-floor pine flooring were preserved, while reclaimed heart pine and traditional materials were used to maintain the home’s historic character and longevity. A minimalist addition, defined by clean lines, a subdued palette, and simple geometry, creates a contemporary counterpoint that highlights rather than competes with the original structure. Light-filled outdoor spaces and slender cable railings extend the home into its natural surroundings, forming a seamless relationship between old and new.
